Résumé Abstract : «This study evaluated the relationship between principles of Fairtrade and job satisfaction in horticultural sector in Naivasha Sub-County, Kenya. Specifically, the study examined how fair remuneration and non - discrimination of employees influenced job satisfaction in horticultural farms. The study was guided by Becker’s theory of discrimination and theory of human capital. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design. The study population comprised of the 11,469 employees working with Fairtrade certified horticultural firms in Naivasha Sub-County. A sample of 100 respondents was obtained using stratified random sampling. The data was using a structured self-designed questionnaire. A pilot study was conducted prior to the main study in order to test both validity and reliability of the research questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used in the analys is using SPSS 24 . The study revealed that though increasing the fairness of employee remuneration was likely to enhance job satisfaction, the relationship was too weak and not significant to draw much attention. It was established that as the employees working with Fairtrade certified farms became more non discriminated, the more the job satisfaction was likely to be. It was observed that non - discrimination of employees at the workplace was the most significant and crucial Fairtrade principle while fair remuneration was the least significant. The study concluded that there was minimum wage for all employees working in the hortic ultural sector. It was concluded that there were some employees who benefitted from collective bargaining while others did not. It was recommended that farms should ensure that the remuneration package is fair in all dimensions including when compared to other subsectors in agriculture.»
